DOLPHIN Premier Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

The Dolphin Premier is the iconic pool cleaner from Maytronics engineers. Welcome to the Review of the Dolphin Premier Robotic pool Cleaner by Maytronics. It’s one of the most high-tech, smart, and feature-rich robotic pool cleaners available today.

This article walks you through its impressive features, including waterline cleaning, intelligent navigation, multi-media filtration, and much more. This pool cleaner is not cheap, but it is worth every penny you pay for it. It has the capability of doing everything for you, taking up the slack left behind by lesser robots.

Why Listen To Me?

My name is Wendy Owens and I have been around privately owned pools all of my life. My parents owned a in-ground pool, and my husband and I have owned both, above ground and in-ground pools.

My Husband and I used pool cleaning services when we first were married almost thirty years ago. To save a little money we slowly took over our pool cleaning chores. Now we love being outdoors and doing our own backyard chores.

We have been using robotic pool cleaners since the mid to late 90’s, trying to save some time in our pool cleaning chores.  They are a little expensive, but they have been getting cheaper and better as time goes by.

We have tried out many robotic pool cleaners and have compiled a list of the best robotic pool cleaners. We love the work and time that these cleaners save us.

So now, let me give you an honest review of the Dolphin Premier robotic pool cleaner.

Dolphin Premier Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

For all of its features, the Premier is surprisingly simple to get started. It’s a true plug-and-play style, so it’s ready to use right away. However, the manual does not explain its technological features, so you will need to watch videos on the Maytronics website.

The first thing you’ll do is untangle its cable and stretch it out to relieve kinks. Next, get rid of the plastic wraps from the brushes and position the electricity supply approximately 12 feet from the pool walls towards the center of its longest side. Hook up the cord to the power supply, making sure the connector notch lines up with the socket groove. To secure the notch, turn it clockwise. You can start the cycle after turning on the power.

Place the Premier in the pool and allow it to settle at the bottom. Next, immerse only a portion of the cable in water so that the robot can reach all corners of the pool. Then, turn on the power to start a single three-hour cycle.

The Dolphin Premier is intended for in-ground swimming pools and can clean those up to 50 feet wide in just three hours.

SmartNav Technology enables it to map its own path to quickly and effectively clean your pool floor, walls, and waterline. This microprocessor-regulated pool scanning feature allows the pool to detect and avoid drains, ladders, and other obstacles in its path. You can set it up and let it loose in your pool to do its thing without worrying about it wandering aimlessly or becoming stuck. However, if you prefer to have complete control, a wireless remote is available seperately.

Multiple Filter Media

Unlike most pool cleaners, which come with only one type of media, the Premiere eliminates the uncertainty out of pool cleaning by including four different types of filter media. You can remove algae and fine debris by swapping in the micro-filter. Use the oversized filters when dealing with bushels of autumn leaves. Standard filters are designed to enable optimal suction.

Swivel Cable

The cable on the Premier robotic cleaner spins with the cleaner, preventing tangles. In addition, a floating buoy attached to the cable keeps it raised.

Cleaning Time Scheduler

The smart control power supply is programmable, so you can schedule the Premier to run daily, two times weekly, or three times weekly without going in and turning it on and off manually. A handy indicator light shows when the filter media is full, so you can clean the robot to get it back to working more efficiently.

HyperGrip Rubber Tracks

HyperGrip rubber tracks enhance the Premiere movement; these give the machine superior bi-directional control and optimize its grip on surfaces, thereby reducing the possibility of skidding, which tends to send pool cleaners wasting energy off-course, leaving some surfaces dirty. The HyperGrip feature enables the Premier to hug walls tight and scale them to purge any grime.

Heavy-Duty Motors

Heavy-Duty Motors

Thanks to two Heavy-duty motors, the Premier is powerful. The motors are 20 percent larger than those on other robotic cleaners and provide enough power to deal even with stubborn grime and large debris. However, the large motors do not compromise the Premier’s power efficiency because non-slip HyperGrip tracks are used in place of ordinary wheels; and drive belts, which were prone to slipping and untimely wear, have been swapped out for a new system.

Furthermore, the 180-watt electric motor costs five cents per hour on average, making them way more energy-efficient than traditional pressure and suction cleaners.

Modular Engineering

The Dolphin Premier is designed to have as little downtime as possible. It boasts a Do-It-Yourself modular platform, so if it needs service or a new part, you can replace the component yourself in less than 10 minutes. This ensures the pool cleaner is never out of commission for long.

Pros And Cons For The Review Of The Dolphin Premier Robotic Pool Cleaner

Pros and Cons Of The Dolphin Premiere Robotic Pool Cleaner

  • Full pool coverage, including waterline scrubbing:
    • The Premiere has hypergrip rubber tracks which allows it to stick to any surface, allowing it to climb the usually hard-to-reach tile/waterline and scrub bacteria, algae, and grime off it. In a typical pool, over 90 percent of algae and bacteria live on the wall, with most concentrated below and above the waterline.
    • This troublesome area is often called the scum line. While some robotic pool cleaners only scrub the lower section of the wall leaving the area above the waterline, the Premier has dual stabilizers that allow it to easily climb and clean all sections of the tile line and upper wall, leaving your entire pool clean.
  • Energy Efficient:
    • Premier uses 90% less electricity than traditional pressure cleaners.
  • Dual brushes and powerful suction deliver excellent cleaning performance:
    • The Premier is designed to clean all pool surfaces with extreme accuracy, including the tile and waterline.
  • The long warranty:
    • The Premier no-hassle Warranty covers the machine for three years. This is about twice as long as the warranties that come with most robotic cleaners. Plus, it’s non-prorated and is not restricted in the number of hours or cycles. It’s the best protection for your investment.
  • Multiple filter media:
    • Comes with four different filters
      1. Pleated Micro Cartridge for a deep clean that filters everything up to 2 microns
      2. Standard Filter for every day cleaning
      3. Leaf Bag for large debri
      4. Disposable Debri Bags so you don’t have to clean your filters
  • Convenient weekly scheduler:
    • On the power supply, you can schedule the premier to run daily, two times weekly or three times weekly
  • Filter Media Light:
    • Has a light on the power supply that tells you when the filter is full.
  • Swivel Cable:
    • Swivel technology, which is patented, the cable never tangles for a continuous, undisturbed cleaning

  • Expensive:
    • It is a higher priced pool cleaner, but I think it is well worth the money because it is such a good cleaner.
  • Filters hard to clean:
    • The reusable media bag can be difficult to clean. It is machine washable and fits in tight; still, it takes a long time to clean.
  • Model is too wide:
    • The Premier is wider than other robots and if your swimming pool steps are narrow, it will force you to clean your steps manually.
  • The caddy and remote are sold separately:
    • They are not inexpensive, though. But the remote is not really that good and you don’t really need it.. On the other hand, the caddy is extremely useful for transportation and storage.

Final Verdict Of The Dolphin Premier Robotic Pool Cleaner Review (4.5/5)

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
Final Verdict Of The Dolphin Premier Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

While the Dolphin Premier costs significantly more than other robotic pool cleaners, it has aspects that boost its efficiency, lowering operational expenses. Its 180-watt electric motors consume less power than AC booster pumps.

Furthermore, the SmartNav feature determines the quickest path to clean your pool, while the rubber tracks prevent slippage and ensure it stays on the predetermined path. Overall, this pool cleaner saves 90 % more energy than traditional pool cleaners, making it a worthwhile investment.

It has a 60-foot cord, and its double-action brushes work faster and more powerfully to remove dirt from your pool walls, while its multi-media filtration system collects leaves, grime, algae, and even bacteria, leaving every inch of your pool spick and span in just 3 hours.

In my opinion this is one of the best robotic pool cleaners on the market today. The only reason that this is not number one on my list, is the price. If you are interested in a quality cleaning experience, one of the best from a robotic pool cleaner and willing to pay a little more for a cleaner that is very user friendly, then this is the one for you.

Some Accessory Options For The Dolphin Premiere
