Why Listen To Me?
Hi, I am Wendy Owens and I was basically raised around swimming pools. My husband and I have owned both, in-ground and above ground pools and my parents also had a pool in there back yard growing up.
My Husband and I used pool cleaning services when we first were married almost thirty years ago. To save a little money we slowly took over our pool cleaning chores. Now we love being outdoors and doing our own backyard chores.
We have been using robotic pool cleaners since the mid to late 90’s, trying to save some time in our pool cleaning chores. They are a little expensive, but they have been getting cheaper and better as time goes by.
We have tried out many robotic pool cleaners and have compiled a list of the best robotic pool cleaners. We love the work and time that these cleaners save us.
So now, let me give you an honest review of the Polaris 9650IQ Sport.
Polaris 9650IQ Sport Robotic Pool Cleaner Review
If you’re ready to invest an extra budget on a superior robotic cleaner, this latest iteration of the 9000 Model robotic cleaner is a great choice.
It’s a four-wheel-drive in-ground swimming pool cleaner that goes online, allowing for hand-held control via a smartphone app. You can also use it with Amazon Alexa or program it using a Control Panel to configure some basic functionalities and have it act as a smart device. It has a built-in vacuum filtration system, meaning it does not require a connection to the pool pump.
It climbs up the wall for retrieval and has its own basket, anti-tangle technology, unique lift system, and much more.
What Is Included With The Polaris 9650IQ Sport?
The unit is made of high-quality plastic and has rubber tires that can resist tough pool conditions. The 9650iq also comes with a buoyant handle which makes it easy to get it in and out of the pool. It also has a much more solid feel than most pool cleaners. This package includes the following:
- 70 ft tangle reducing cable
- Control panel
- Unique lift system allowing it to come towards the side of the pool so you can pull it right out
- Remote control so you can point it where to clean
- Large PVC bristle brushes on the front.
- Wide large opening for debris and dirt
- Easy-open lid to access debris tray
- Large easy-to-open debris tray
Features Of The Polaris 9650IQ Sport iAquaLink App:
The iAquaLink App allows you to control and configure the 9650iQ Sport. The App can be installed on Android and iOS phones, and from there, you can set the cleaning schedule, pool shape, and even where the pool cleaner should clean (walls only, floor or wall and floor). The App allows you to configure up to 7 different cleaning schedules.
You may also use the App to manually run the cleaner using either an in-app joystick or motion-sensor technology. The latter allows you to move your phone or gadget in the path you desire the cleaner to follow. However, although it’s pretty cool, I can’t see most people choosing to do it when they could just program the machine to automatically give their pools a blitz.
Apart from the App, a normal 2-inch LCD Control Panel is available for turning on the pool cleaner and programming some basic functions.
Vortex Suction Technology
The pool cleaner also has Vortex suction technology, making it powerful at sucking dirt and all manner of debris from the pool. Indeed, from leaves to twigs, berries, and small pebbles, nothing escapes the 9650iQ suction power. It pulls them in with the water, filters them into the bag, and lets out the water. When the bag is full, you will get signals to empty it, clean it, put it back in, and resume.
Easy Lift Mechanism
After completing a cleaning cycle, the Easy-Lift mechanism enables easy removal of the device from the pool. By simply pressing and holding the “Lift” button, the pool cleaner comes towards the pool surface so you can lift it out. It will even empty any water remaining inside it, making itself light and easy to lift out.
Easy Open Debris Canister
It’s simple to remove and empty the debris bin. The cleaner’s cover pops open when you press its top button, and the dirtbag easily slips out. Simply hose it, then put it back.
The pool cleaner’s 4WD offers numerous advantages. The cleaner will not get caught on the step sections, main drain, or bends because each of the four wheels rotates as the mortar does. The 4WD makes it efficient at scaling walls and staying on the tile line to scrub the dirt off the tiles.
The anti-tangle Swivel is a new feature for the Polaris 9650iQ. It helps keep the cord from twisting upon itself while the robot navigates the pool. Polaris finally released a cable with anti-tangle technology, and it performs admirably. The cleaner also includes a 70-foot (21.3-meter) cord, making it suited for both small and large pools.
A high-end Caddy is also provided, which is exceptionally built and balanced. It has two wheels and a long handle to enable easy transportation of the pool cleaner.
Setup And Ease Of Use
You will have to assemble the 9650iQ yourself because it comes disassembled. You won’t have to wing it, though, because it comes with an easy-to-follow instruction booklet. You’ll also need to put the caddy together, although this simple process requires zero tools. All you have to do is fix t its handle, wheels, cleaner hook, and head unit cradle, which won’t take long.
For added convenience, link the robotic pool cleaner to your smartphone using WiFi connectivity and the iAquaLink App. This is simple and requires using the head unit’s “WiFi to phone button.”
This robot interface is simple and easy to use. It provides various buttons such as a START or STOP button, a WiFi to Phone button, and a button to select a cleaning surface. It also features a full debris bag indicator, LEDs for LAN, and WiFi.
There’s also a control panel that shows the left cleaning cycle duration as well as error warnings if there are any issues.
You can configure cleaning schedules, modes, and other settings via the iAquaLink app or control panel.
After set up and configuration, you can place the robotic cleaner in the pool and plug the cable into a GFCI outlet.
Performance And Maintenance:
The9650iQ is for cleaning in-ground pools measuring up to 60 ft. long. When you turn it on and set it to smart, it will run for 2.5 hours, exploring and mapping your pool to determine the best cleaning path.
It moves inside the pool just like a little vehicle, thanks to its sleek design and 4wd mechanism. It’s actually incredibly quiet and fascinating to watch. It rarely gets caught in drains, corners, or steep areas, and it can maneuver over slopes, scale walls, and scrub tiles while remaining stable. It features thrusters and other mechanisms to revert to normal position when toppled.
The 9650iQ is an expert in pool contaminant extraction. The PVC bristle brushes scrub effectively, and the Vortex suction technology collects dry leaves, grass, sticks, insects, small fruits, and all manner of debris and fiber in the mesh filter bag.
However, the filter clogs easily in the presence of a large quantity of fine particle debris, rendering the self-retrieve mode useless. Therefore, this device is best suited for pools that are maintained regularly.
The low-torque waterproof swivel technology on the 70-foot power cord [prevents tangles. Also, this robotic cleaner works in both small and large pools thanks to its long length.
This autonomous pool robot provides various cleaning options, including the ability to set it to clean only the floor, wall, wall, and floor or just the wall and tile line. It will follow established cleaning schedules, and if you forget to set it in the pool before a planned cleaning schedule, you will get in-app messages.
Finally, click and hold down the Control Unit’s “Easy-Lift” to simply remove the gadget from your pool at the end of a cleaning cycle. It will empty itself so you can lift it out easily.
The 9650iQrobotic pool cleaner is very easy to maintain. Cleaning and properly rinsing the filter bag at the end of every cleaning cycle is smart. It’s simple to remove, empty, and rinse the bag. Simply remove the cleaner lid, lift the bag to dump the waste, then hose it and put it right back.
Overall, this robotic cleaner does an excellent job, is durable, and has a good build. Plus, it is backed by a two-year warranty.

There isn’t much to complain about the Polaris 9650iQ robotic pool cleaner. It’s all in the name. It’s a genuinely smart pool cleaner that combines superior cleaning capability with the supreme ease of iAquaLink smartphone remote control, plus the option to activate it via Amazon’s Alexa.
